A crowd favourite from the 2019 Blue Mountains Music Festival, Baltic Bar Mitzvah are a formidable acoustic powerhouse bringing the best Balkan, Gypsy, Klezmer fusion beats from the streets to the stage. With the release of the group's first studio album, 'Barely Kosher', Baltic Bar Mitzvah are bringing the gypsy party back to Katoomba!

With the combination of wind, brass and percussion, Baltic Bar Mitzvah have forged a reputation as party favourites, known for their improvisational Jazz approach exploring the vibrant music of celebration from cultures around the globe. From humble beginnings in Newcastle NSW, the band has performed together for almost a decade, playing alongside the likes of Monsieur Camembert, The Woohoo Revue, Hello Tut Tut, Devil on The Rooftop and at festivals including Blue Mountains Music Festival, Illawarra Folk Festival, Newtown Festival, Black Mountain Unplugged, HONK! OZ. Leaving only the charred remains of dance-floors behind them.

 

Embracing the New Orleans Street Band tradition, variations of the troupe can also be spotted roving amongst the crowds bringing their Cobblestone Cabaret to festivals and markets, providing emotional and comic relief to unsuspecting passers-by as the European Minstrels once did.

 

Each member has studied music extensively in their chosen disciplines and continue to maintain professional performance careers across Australia and Internationally, appearing alongside a diverse mix of Artists and Ensembles.

 

Having clocked up over 25,000 kms of successful touring traversing the Eastern Block of Australia, Baltic Bar Mitzvah also provide educational programs as part of their national touring initiative, visiting schools around NSW and sharing their musical passion with children of all ages, with particular focus on the importance of Music Education in Primary Schools. The ensemble are regular performers for the Department of Education - Arts Unit delivering workshops for students at the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House. As well as Coordinating and Tutoring music programs within the Australian Educational System.

 

Baltic Bar Mitzvah’s first studio album ‘Barely Kosher’ presents a fresh take of Traditional tunes in the ensemble’s distinct style, fusing contemporary grooves from around the globe with some carefully selected Klezmer favourites. Sharing the spirit and stories behind these iconic standards, Barely Kosher is an album you can’t Passover.
